Gurdwara
Manji Sahib
Gurdwara Manji Sahib - Karnal, a prominent
town of Haryana, was visited by Guru Nanak
Dev. Here he had religious discussion
with a Muslim scholar, Shaikh Tahir. The
Guru pointed out that worship of graves
and mausoleums by Muslims is as bad as
idol-worship which is expressly prohibited
in Islam. A shrine was later established
at this spot. Called Gurdwara Manji Sahib,
it is situated in the old Sarafa Bazar.
Raja Gajpat Singh of Jind (1766-89) constructed
a Manji Sahib to which additions were
made later. The whole building has been
reconstructed during the 1980s. Being
in a populous town right on the busiest
national highway, this Gurdwara is frequented
by devotees in large numbers.
