Navin Patshahi
Gurdwara Navin Patshahi - Barna village
in Kurukshetra district is 20 kilometres
southwest of the district town and is
linked to the Kurukshetra - Kaithal road.
Guru Tegh Bahadur arrived here from Kaithal
winding up his tour of Malva and Bangar.
A Sikh peasant served the Guru and said
to him that he would go to his fields
where an official had come to measure
them. The Guru remarked, "Stay here; your
fields are beyond measure." And indeed
the surveying official could not determine
the exact area of his land, although he
had measured it thrice. The peasant then
told him what Guru Tegh Bahadur had casually
remarked. The official asked the peasant
to lead him to the Guru, on meeting whom
he too became a Sikh. According to local
tradition, another Sikh couple, Bhai Suddha
and his childless wife, also took the
Guru to their house. The Guru blessed
them. It was their house which became
a holy shrine for the devotees. Bhai Udai
Singh of Kaithal built a Gurdwara on this
site. This building too, has been replaced
by a new one during the 1970s. The present
Gurdwara Navin Patshahi, as it is called,
has a two-storey domed building. It is
maintained by the village sangat.
